A New Beginning

When Bilal came to Covenant House Texas, he was facing the challenge of rebuilding his life while adapting to a new environment. He was determined to move forward, even though the road ahead was unfamiliar.

Today, he’s pursuing his education, building confidence in English, and taking meaningful steps toward a future centered on serving others.

Growing Through Every Opportunity

Throughout his journey, Bilal found more than support at Covenant House Texas. He found a community that encouraged him to keep moving forward.

Staff from the Youth Engagement Center (YEC), Safe Haven, Rights of Passage (ROP), Youth Engagement Services (YES), and Career Services each played an important role in helping him reach new milestones. Bilal especially appreciated the encouragement and guidance he received from Mr. Cody and the Career Services team as he prepared for the next chapter of his life.

Learning, Growing, and Persevering

One of Bilal’s proudest accomplishments has been learning English.

By attending college-level ESL classes twice each week while balancing work and program responsibilities, he made remarkable progress in just a few months. Today, he confidently communicates in English, opening doors to new educational, professional, and personal opportunities.

His journey is a reminder that growth happens one step at a time through consistency, determination, and a willingness to keep learning.

Building Toward the Future

Bilal has embraced every opportunity to prepare for the future he envisions. Along the way, he worked closely with Covenant House Texas staff to navigate important milestones that will help him pursue higher education and meaningful employment.

Since April, he has worked overnight shifts as a dishwasher at Levant BBQ while continuing his education and planning for what’s next. His work ethic, perseverance, and positive attitude have stood out to everyone who has walked alongside him.

A Dream Rooted in Service

Bilal’s goal is to attend Houston Community College before pursuing nursing school.

He hopes to build a career caring for others while creating a stable future for himself and providing support for his family, especially his mother. Outside of school and work, he also enjoys boxing and hopes to continue developing his skills in the sport.

Restoration in Action

Bilal’s story reminds us that restoration isn’t defined by one breakthrough. It’s built through countless moments of persistence, encouragement, and growth.

Every class attended. Every shift worked. Every goal pursued. Every challenge overcome.

His journey reflects the resilience and determination we see in so many young people at Covenant House Texas. When young people are surrounded by a community that believes in them, they gain more than resources—they gain confidence, purpose, and the opportunity to build the future they’ve always imagined.
