Houston, TX — February 13, 2026  — The Urban Land Institute (ULI) Houston District Council recently celebrated the 2026 Development of Distinction Awards, recognizing exceptional real estate and community development projects that exemplify best practices in design, construction, economic viability, community impact, and environmental stewardship. The annual event, presented by Wilson, Cribbs + Goren, showcased 11 finalist projects evaluated by a jury of industry experts. (Realty News Report)

Among the honorees, a standout in the Non-Profit Large category was Covenant House Texas, honored for its nurturing and transformative sanctuary for young people experiencing homelessness. The project was praised by jurors for its “trauma-informed design” and compassionate approach to meeting the needs of residents. The campus integrates a range of services, including housing, food access, case management offices, creative studios, a chapel, a baby play area, recreational spaces, and an on-site medical clinic. Jurors noted the design’s emphasis on open spaces, rounded interior features, and soft finishes that prioritize dignity, safety, and emotional well-being — creating an environment that feels like home rather than an institution.
